RE: Drinking Water Quality Advisory

Due to complications with the treatment of the water at the drinking water treatment facility, the District of Port Edward is issuing a Water Quality Advisory (WQA) for the drinking water effective immediately (July 30, 2025). The WQA applies to all water system users who are connected to the district community water supply system. Any independent or private water systems are not affected by this Advisory.

This Water Quality Advisory is issued due to inconsistencies in the treatment of the drinking water which may lead to elevated risks to the water system users. However, the nature of the risks are not elevated high enough to warrant a Boil Water Notice. If the concerns with the WQA are not adequately addressed, the WQA may be elevated to a Boil Water Notice in the near future.

A Water Quality Advisory means that there may be an elevated risks to the water users and those individuals who are immune compromised due to illness, or age should seek out alternative sources of drinking water or may choose to boil the water. Non-immune compromised individuals should not be affected by the risks in the water but can still take precautions and seek out alternative sources of drinking water.

Further to the Water Quality Advisory issued on July 30, 2025, the District of Port Edward would like to provide an update to residents.

A full water quality analysis was submitted to Northern Health on Thursday, August 7, 2025. We are currently awaiting their review and guidance.

Until further notice, the Water Quality Advisory remains in effect. We continue to recommend that individuals with weakened immune systems, as well as the elderly and infants, use an alternative source of drinking water or boil tap water as a precaution.
